Buddha's Birthday at Berkeley Buddhist Monastery
Join us for the Buddha's Birthday at Berkeley Buddhist Monastery! In this ceremony, we bathe the baby Shakyamuni Buddha as we also reflect on purifying our own Buddha-nature. This is a chance to renew ourselves.
Sudhana Center Summer Retreat: The Infinite Path of the Bodhisattva
How do we meet the uncertainty of our world with a heart that is both stable and open? How do we transform the challenges of our time into fuel of loving-kindness, peace, and wisdom for ourselves and those around us?
Drawing from Asanga’s Bodhisattvabhumi, the Three Steps One Bow Journals, and James Carse’s Finite and Infinite Games, we will explore how to walk the Bodhisattva path as an infinite journey of depth and breadth.
Buddha Root Farm: Guan Yin & Chan Session
As a method that has been practiced for thousands of years, reciting Guan Yin Bodhisattva's name opens the door to the innate, everlasting refuge within. Invoked in times of danger and uncertainty, the quality of a compassionate heart and the wisdom of skillful means have the potential to turn peril into safety and fear into courage. Come join us in the woods of Buddha Root Farm, where we recite the name of Guan Yin and return to the refuge within.
Following the Guan Yin retreat, we invite you to deepen your practice with a Chan meditation retreat in the quiet woods of Oregon.
City of Ten Thousand Buddhas: DRBUx Guan Yin Session
Join us for a week of Guan Yin recitation, meditation, service, and self-reflection immersed in a spiritual community at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas.
This is a chance to disconnect from our digital devices, reconnect to our inner wisdom and compassion, and form a true network of caring relationships with those around us.
Community Day @ Redwood Vihara
How do we connect to a sustainable joy in our hearts?
Come spend a day in the redwoods building trails outside and exploring a deeper path within. Through simple jobs such as “chopping wood and carrying water,” we have an opportunity to step out of rush of modern life into being together in the stillness of the forest. After a vegetarian lunch, we will go for a hike in the forest.
Chan and Chocolate: Tasting the Present Moment
In meditation, we often enter stillness through the breath or awareness of the body. In this immersion, we explore another gateway: the sense of taste. By slowly tasting chocolate, we learn to listen deeply with our senses and discover how awareness can transform an ordinary experience into something rich and alive.
This immersion invites us to be “embodiful.” Rather than following habits of craving or distraction, we practice letting the mind settle and allowing experience to unfold without judgment. Each taste becomes an opportunity be fully embodied with all our faculties—listening, seeing, sensing, touching, tasting, smelling, feeling, and even thinking—working together in harmony. In this way, practice reflects the deeper unity of 心 (heart-mind).
Guan Yin Retreat: Listening to the Heart
How deeply do we listen—to others, to ourselves, and to the living world around us? In an age of constant connection, many of us still feel unseen, unheard, or alone. What would it mean to truly listen again—with our whole being?
Come join us for a weeklong immersion in the compassionate vibes of Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
Beyond Duck Syndrome: Finding Equanimity at Stanford
At Stanford University, students sometimes joke about Duck Syndrome: calm and confident on the surface, paddling furiously underneath. We’re expected to be brilliant, productive, and somehow effortless at the same time. But beneath the surface many of us feel the pressure of grades, expectations, the cost of education, uncertainty about the future, and a world that often feels unstable.
Is it possible to be steady in the middle of all that?
Come pause, breathe, and discover a different way to be.

We invite you to join the Trainee (Anagarika) Ceremony at Redwood Vihara for Mingchee Tan. This ceremony marks the beginning of a six-to-twelve-month period of immersive monastic training, dedicated to deepening practice, learning, and service, while discerning one’s inner calling with the support of the Sangha.

Community Day: Finding True Love
Join us for a community day exploring what true love really means. Rather than searching outside ourselves for something to complete us, this day invites a return to the fullness already within. This love is unconditional and extends to all beings: boundless, exalted, immeasurable.
The day will include service, stillness, circle sharing, a shared community meal, and storytelling with Brian Conroy. We will also hike through the redwood forest. It’s a family-friendly event, so people are welcome to bring kids!
Meditation Weekend: Returning to Our True Nature
In the quiet heart of the redwoods, we’ll turn toward the Four Boundless Hearts—loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity—as a way of remembering who we truly are. Come return to your true nature, in nature.
